Title: Two old chairs
Post by: livinglucky on March 02, 2013, 12:16:45 PM
I will try this one more time.
My aunt gave me these chairs, I think
they are French carved Victorian.
I would like some help getting information about them.
I have a table and chairs I will need help with at a later
time.
Thanks for any help,
Roger

Lets wait till I can see the construction !! The upholstered oval back is similar to the Louis XVI style but French provincial leg is more late 1940`s !!~  Its a bit heavy !!

I don,t know...porcelain castors...might pre-date the 40,s,...although they may have been added to give them the old antique look,

I had an antique person look at this two chairs.
They are from 1860 to 1880.
I guess they were restored in the 1940's.
The rocker is somewhat different.
The casters are porcelain as bigwull thought.
He thought about $700.00 would be good price.
Thanks to you all.

And what basis did they give for that date ??

I would guess style and materials.  Glad to see that we can put that mid 20th century dating to rest. The only thing mid 20th about these is the (re) upholstry, which looks more like 1960s or 70s.

I would think the chairs are closer to 1880 than 1860, but there you go.

And while we're at it, thanks mucho for actually going to the trouble to come back to update us!! So many just pose a question, then you never hear from them again.

I would bet a coke ( drinkable kind ) that you can find many similarities if you google "1940s repro French Provincial chairs" than you can googling "1860 to 1880 French Provincial chairs  !!

What would you know about coke...other than the drinkable kind....you told us you were a drinks only...temptress,.....in your younger days,...which,by your age  means that you were the right age during the late sixties...when all of these M.A.D,s...were going about...those were the day,s indeed.... ;D ;D

And who was he ?

I just can't see mid / late 19th in those. The quality in this pair is much better

People, Victorian chairs had porcelain casters!!!!!!!  Wish I could see a better close up of bottom/construction.

I'm a thinkin' these just possibly could be older Mart!!!  Just have had a "face lift" or touch of "botox" along the way!  Would need to see better.
AND yes Wullies, I have High Speed Fios!!!
