Its a pulley block..it may have been part of a block & tackle,....but could also have been on an old sailing ship...your general location..would tell us more,

Oh ok that makes sense, i found it near Port richey,Florida. It was actually an old shrimp dock/resturaunt. You have any idea what year it could be? Thanks!!
-
From the looks of it,its made of Oak,and it has good age to it, i,d say easily 1800,s
-
when was the town founded?

when was the town founded?
Yeah that sounds about right as the town was found in 1880s. Any value to it?
-
It was made by the Boston & Lockport Block Co,..in the 1800,s..depending on what size it is e.g ..length x breadth, prices range from a paltry, $10 ..up to $60,

Its 13" long and 6" wide, and the letter stamped in black are pretty faded but i can at least make out "Graphite" and it has what looks to be the weight limit engraved in it but i can only see that clearly with a magnifying glass.

thats big...may have to reassess my estimate,s as they were based on 8in/10in...but its definitely a Boston Lockport as the star in the middle is their symbol...
-
Yeah your right, i can make out the words... made in the usa, lockport and block in the logo in the middle..
-
here,s one here,in better condition than yours..but..yours might be older...

Ooohh thats nice, so do you think mine might be worth near that?
-
its not what its worth..that matters..its...can you find a buyer..all the big one,s i,ve looked at..have not sold,...all you can do is keep tabs on this one and any others that you see...just type Boston & Lockport into google..browse around when you see any that are similar to yours, file it..and see if they are selling.....now i,m waiting for...."what was that you were saying Wullie" ;D ;D...i,m all for learning from my elders... ;D
-
Have to say Wullie,, you are right on these not bringing much !! Went and looked and they are not selling at all !! Thats odd !!
-
I think they are not selling for a couple of reasons. First because they are such a common item and were made so sturdy, that they are still common today. and readily available today. The second reason is that most people don't have a use for them anymore. However they could be repurposed and used to hang almost anything with a little imagination!
