Title: Hey, bigwull,remember these?
Post by: Buddie11 on March 03, 2013, 07:40:31 PM
Found these buried in attic, made in England, figured bigwull probably ate a few of these. Unopened pack, wouldn't eat one. Sorry for the stupid post, but to find a pack of candy still in package from the fifties? Bigwull were they good?

As a matter of fact they were very good..they were the kind of sweet, that, needed to be sucked for a while in order to get the centre, warmed up and flow better, thus guaranteeing the full fruit flavour...but,being young and impetuous..i could never wait that long...it was more a case of stick them in yer gob, short suck then crunch...Send them over to me and i,ll give them a fitting end to their long life....but this time i,ll savour them... ;D

Did find a couple of other things up there ,but a 60 year old bag of candy. Is that about the right date bigwull? Yes I am in Canada (Alberta). There has to be at least 20 candies in there. Still think this is a stupid post, sorry to waste your time.

As KC says not a stupid post, ..far from it...and believe it or not..these sweets still have value,..far more than their old pence cost..when there were 240 pennies to a £...which when you think about it...must have had the rest of the world scratching their heads...most countries.in the civilized world .if not all had a currency that had 100 parts,...but Britains had 240...then when you broke it down...it was,nt in parts of 10...which is easy...no,we had,,half,s thirds, quarters,

I had a Great Uncle that would go back to Ireland every other year to look up long lost relatives. He would always return with something for me, including a tin of Hadji Bey's Turkish Delights...which I've saved from the early 60's without opening.

(BTW: Buddie11; I always turn up the volume on the radio when Corb Lund is performing. ;))

What a cool find! I love it when every so often I stumble upon a store carrying "nostalgia" candy, like Beeman's clove gum:

What was the name of the sour apple bubble gum that came in a big slab the size of a pack of cards and had a smiley face on the wrapper? The challenge was always to try to stuff the entire thing into your mouth at once and chew it!

Tales, not sure what that gum was, a little before my time. I was born in76. The gum that I always remember is Thrills (taste like soap, literally) used to always buy it though for some odd reason.

Ah-HA! Found it! It was appropriately called "Mouth Full of Fruit Bubble Gum" Almost impossible to chew when you stuffed the entire thing in your mouth at once... almost!
All kinds of great gum information here: http://theimaginaryworld.com/gum.html (http://theimaginaryworld.com/gum.html)

I also remember the two in the cloth drawstring bags at the bottom of the picture. We would save the little bags and put small things in them.

Can you take a side and back view and does it or did it have a handle ??  Looks like a heat diffuser for a cook stove !!  I bought one at a garage sale a while back and had no idea what it was till members here told me !!  Evidently they were not popular in Texas !!

Since you found the candy, maybe they were in the candy business and that held lollipops.
