These items came from my Grandfathers's home. He died in 1980 at the age of 79.
This looks like a tiny spoon.

Close-ups from above and the side:

I'm not sure if these two pieces were used together, but they look like the same style and wood type.

Thanks for shedding any light on what these things might be.

Aren't they knitting / sewing instruments ?

Top pic I think is a snuff spoon !! Snuff glasses were about 4 to five inches tall so the spoon would reach to the bottom of the glass or jar !! Normally they would use about 1/4 tsp or a bit more !! Ladies also dipped snuff back in early 1900`s !! Bottom does look like maybe a yarn winding tool !! For winding the yarn balls but can`t be sure on it !!

May I suggest that you search images for "antique cayenne spoon' for the first one as well. They were made wooden but are very rare. Could well be a snuff spoon or opium spoon!
For the other object, believe you have a wooden Nostepinne and yarn winder/holder there. Here is a pic of a newer one:

Thanks for the replies. My wife thought (apparently correctly) that the second item was for winding yarn, but we had no idea about the first. It certainly does look like a snuff/cayanne spoon.

Sorry, a bit gross but the first item also looks like an old ear wax scoop/spoon.
-
Melodie I even thought of that, but it appears larger than that. I amm very familiar with antique/vintage Asian ear picks, ear scoops and ear spoons. This just doesn't seem to be one to me. But, I have been known to make a mistake occassionally!
:)

I bow to your superiority on this one KC ;D I must admit I haven't come across many genuine ones on my travels but plenty of mislabeled manicure tools purporting to be ear picks ::)

Would it help if I mentioned that my Grandparents lived in a rural part of North Carolina and were farmers?
-
Melodie, if you hang around this forum you will find all kinds of strange objects. Or more common appearing objects for unusual or odd uses! Never a dull moment!
Being in the Carolina's and the large tobacco crop industry there....definitely leans toward snuff spoon! But, who knows!

Yes !! That always helps !! Go with the snuff or cayenne spoon !! My Granddad dipped while inside because Grandmother wouldn`t let him chew !! She thought it was less messy and wouldn`t have a spitoon in the house !!

whilst there are similarities...this link points to a snuff spoon...the first one being 5+in long
