hi guys found this on a job
1277
rothkappchen
le chaperon rouge
druck verlag.v ed gust may frankfurt
any infomation would be great
-
The first words druck verlag seem to mean press publishing house. It look like a late 19th century German print or litho. Is their any other writing on the image itself.
-
Interesting.... le chaperon rouge is French for The Red Riding Hood.
Das Rotkäppchen (notice the Das is missing) is German for "the Red Riding Hood".
-
Yes, and rothkappchen is German for Little Red Riding Hood. The "chen" ending is a dimunitive.
Just looking at the style, I'd say that it dates from the 1890-1910 time period.

May I ask what the dimensions of the piece are? Are you able to open the frame and see if in fact it is a print or a page from a book?
Background information that you might find interesting...is that originally called Little Red Cap then Little Red Riding Hood...it was originally a French tale and then later spread to the European countries!!!
What I get from this print is that is was available for two countries at least with the dual language notations.

hi there thanks for the info
i have open it up,no writing on the back and yes its a print.
does anyone know what the value would be??
-
Nice print, but probably not alot of value.
This won't thrill you, but I have a similar print, though larger and made in Germany ca. 1850. It's a Hansel and Gretel lost in the woods theme, with beautiful rich color. I wanted to get it for my wife as a gift, but there was no price tag. The merchant said "Just take it for free. I've had it for years and I can't sell it."
So........I'd estimte your print at less than $50.00.

Always remember 'Sentimental Value usually far outweighs the Monetary Value'! :( :)
Nice print though!
