???Hi, new to this. I found this frog in my great grandmothers abandoned home in Mexico.I ve been trying to clean it since it was covered in dust and tar but its still a little dirty, the gold color wasn't noticeable before. I dont know what its made of or what the small stones are but some are missing. i didnt see any markings but it has indentation marks around the edges on the bottom as if it was shaped by hand. just looking for any general info thanks..

The blue/green stones are turquoise...and the others look like amber....and i,m thinking the metal might be gold..because why go to all the trouble of fitting all these little pieces of Turquoise and amber into a piece of degradeable metal like brass ..I,m sure the others on here will be able to add more....

Cool looking folk art frog!
-
Probably turquoise and coral which is commonly used in native american jewelry and other decorative items !! How large is this piece ??

Could also be sheet brass !! Needs to be checked !! Just don`t believe anyone that says its brass then offers to "take it off your hands" !! Look on ebay for a test kit and check it yourself !!

Wullie, you obviously haven't lived in Mart's and my neck-of-the-woods. The imports from Mexico can have some amazing craftsmanship...and be very little cost new! We get inundated by the hundreds of thousands of items! Unfortunately the majority are in poverty in Mexico so the craftsmanship can go so cheaply.

I don,t think I,d want to live in Mart,s neck of the woods....She does,nt have broadband....she,s got snakes....and there,s no NHS......

Sorry Mart. I never thought he would bring up the snakes. Its OK though, he has bats in his attic.
-
Ha !!! Snakes I can live with,, !!! Its everyone else that seems to have a problem !!

No Bats in my attic ;D ;D
-
A self portrait? :D :D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D Oh, It's "Bats in the Belfry!" I have a ton of books on jewelry. I'll check tomorrow. I would have a jeweler look at it. It could be worth it! Cogar is right! It could be worth $$$.
-
I can't find anything similar to yours. The ones I were thinking of were Danish, but I still would have it checked by a jeweler. If Wendy would check in I'm sure she might know something.

KC is pretty good on this stuff !! Since it was found in Mexico,, can we ask where ??

These are quite common on Asian markets, although this does have some age to it. Obviously frogs feature in the religious texts and cautionary tales of many cultures.
