Title: antique airplane propeller

Hi folks, havent had much time to be online lately but weve found a ton of stuff this year! found this last week and wondered if anybody could give me any info on the age and or value. its 54" end to end and was told it was probably off an old bi-plane but I figured you folks could tell me for sure. I've sold a few of these but they normally have identification marks on. Is there nothing on it ?

I don't think I've ever seen an airplane propeller without a center hub hole. Yours might be a wind charger blade??

Saw something on one of the TV shows about a similar prop !! It was never finished because of a problem of some sort !!  Anyway it didn`t pass inspection to be used on a plane so was sold as a decorative prop !! Is it the pic or is one side smaller than the other ?? Could be the how its mounted on the wall that it just looks that way !!

mart-its the way the prop is curved, makes one side look bigger than the other in the picture. that makes sense except this one has stress cracks around the holes and one hole was actually reamed out by vibration against the bolt that went through. plus theres a small stress crack that runs about a foot long along the blade so id say this was used and used hard.. whatever it was for  ???

Possibly didn`t pass a yearly inspection in that case !! Google for different types of propellers !!  Might find it that way !! Or props without center hub !!

Could be a mistake was indentified before the centre hole was made. There does seem to be a small indentation where it would be.

That was my first suggestion but he said it showed stress cracks !!

Could have been cracks due to humidity change.

I am leaning towards this one with rockandrollrods - that there was a flaw in the wood in the first place.  Many props were made and then "seasoned" to make sure there wasn't any flaw/cracking.

The main shaft coming out of the engine doesn't jut out to the 8 outer holes..

Even searched vintage/antique water planes, etc.

Could have been a test propeller.....
