Bowl bought for $3 sells for more than $2 million at NY auction

A New York family scored a huge payday when a small bowl, which they bought at a garage sale for $3, turned out to be a 1,000-year old Chinese piece that sold for $2.2 million at Sotheby’s yesterday.

I would like to know what its made of !!  Does not look like pottery,, looks more like alabaster !!

Is that not what you do with bowls....unless of course you use something entirely different... ;)

That was quite some buy ... requires a tip of the whole hat-rack !

Gotta root for the amateurs !

Bigwull, this one is beautifully ornate on the inside!  Definitely for show!  However, these were usually for royalty back in the time this was made!

well it does,nt ring my bell, nor Avril,s for that matter,..she,s more enthralled with a Pitcher & Bowl, with matching porcelain candlesticks that she got in a charity shop..for £4...i,ll post pic tomorrow....

I agree.  I love my treasures that I find in roadsides, garage sales, estate sales, thrift and second hands!  The hunt is much of the value!!  :)
