I have asked in another forum online but came up short.
This is an awesome piece. The 3 "Jugs" themselves are acutally 12 1/2 inches tall!(ironstone i believe) They sit in this container which appears to be some sort water bath...or "Au bain marie " and underneath that there is this stand that contains a Hollow metal rod which pokes out the side. Some sort of heating element?
My question is... Does anyone know anything more about this? Its so beautiful, and i cant imagine only one of this style was made. What is the heat source? Am i correct about this being like a water bath? Again, any info. Thanks.

Looks like one !! What does the tag say?? Can`t see the pipe !!
-
Are there any markings on the underside of the pitchers? At first I thought it was a syrup warmer until I read how big the pitchers were. It is really nice no matter what it is. Very decorative eye catcher.
-
My first thought was restaurant warmer for sauces !! Hollandaise ect !!
-
We have it for sale in the store i work at, we have it listed as "Amazing Hot Beverage Server" But that was our guess. Attached is a photo of the Heating Element pipe. But as i said, i would love to know how the heating element works(what hooked up to it) We have it listed as early 20th century but could we be wrong? is it earlier? And it amazes me i can not find another one online. Seems like something they would have made more then one of.

That fitter looks like it might be a gas fitter, which would make sense in the time right before electricity was available,
I wondered if it was a hot water heater for a large house, you know the maid would take hot water up for the jug & bowl set in each bedroom? The hot water jug for those sets was quite small, so the maid would take one of the large jugs of hot water. I've seen the large copper hot water heaters that sit on the stove, maybe this was the next step? GG
-
It looks European to me but that is just a hunch.
-
I agree Frogpatch !! French possibly !! Have you looked at the bottom of the copper pan for a mark ??
-
I do believe it is French...they had milk warmers like this in patisserie/restaurants/hotels to warm it so it wouldn't curdle in the tea or coffee.
Don't believe it is that old...mid early to mid 1900's. That style of milk warmer/jug is still available!
Is it copper or a steel? First pic appears copper then the last one of burner appears gray metal.
-
That grey metal, is Aluminium...if it was steel..it would take too long to heat up....
-
Its threaded so I think gas !! I would like to know what metal also after seeing both pics !! Main part looks copper,,bottom,, aluminum like Bigwull said !!

I think the base is tinplate, not aluminum or aluminium. GG

That metal has oxidisation...Tinpl ate does,nt oxidise...it rusts...if you look very closely at the rim..you can see corrosion but no rust...If thats Tinplate..I,ll eat ghoppers shorts....just as long as he is,nt in them at the time.... ;D

Well done....I take back all what i said about your milk bottle bottoms....and you get a box of the did,nt know what they were,s... ;D
-
Ha !! Don`t think they have those in my part of Texas !!
-
Only way they are in our part Mart is in the specialty grocery stores! :)
-
Yep !! And we don`t even have one of those !! We have Wal Mart, Brookshires and Super 1,, and one Spanish speaking store !!
-
Well, If you wanted them, and they are very tasty...complain to Wal-Mart...they own Supermarkets over here, e.g. Asda,...and they sell them,...along with Persimmons...or Sharon Fruit, as it is called by Israeli growers...which i may had is one of the very few fruits that do not contain any seeds, they look very much like a Tomato, but are pale orange in colour....
-
Persimmons grow wild here !! Excellent eating in the fall, but they have plenty of large seeds !! Never heard of one that didn`t !! Are you sure they are persimmons ?? Even the oriental variety have seeds !!
-
The Persimmons/Sharon Fruit that we get here is different from what grows in America...
ours has no core or seeds, see link,..read ,Sharon Fruit...the American Persimmon,s ..latin name is Diospyros,Virginiana ...the seedless type is the Diospyros Kaki....
..
."I,m not often right".."but I,m Never wrong".... ;D
"Sharon Fruit" (named originally after Sharon plain in Israel) is an Israeli-bred cultivar of the D. kaki fruit. The cultivar is called 'Triumph'.[6] As with all pollination-variant-astringent persimmons, the fruit are ripened off the tree by exposing them to carbon dioxide. The sharon fruit has no core, is seedless, particularly sweet, and can be eaten whole.[7] Eating the sharon fruit regularly is believed to reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis heart attack
-
Interesting !! Never heard of that fruit !! Of course in Texas,, how would I ?? If it ain`t apple, orange, grapefruit or banana,, we don`t have it !!,,, Well, not that bad but close !!
-
So what you are saying then.. ..you,re not only living in the Boonies...your living in the Dark Ages Boonies... ;D ;D ;D
-
I've got a wild persimmon tree in the back yard! Tasty but full of seeds!! Not like the commercially grown ones that are larger and have more flesh to them!
-
Those oriental variety that they grow commercially are not as good as the wild ones !! Come to think of it,,we also have muscadines, and you haven`t lived until you have had muscadine jelly,,blackberries, wild plums also excellent jelly, native pecans !!! All Free !!! So being in the boonies isn`t so bad after all !!
-
Those oriental variety that they grow commercially are not as good as the wild ones !!
How do you know...you,ve never tasted a commercially grown one...i can only go on what is available, and they are very good, and until i taste otherwise...then..t hese are the best...and i,m not spitting seeds, and there is no wastage, and at 4 for £1..or $1.50 to you, they are good value...
-
Our commercially grown persimmons are different though and we have plenty of them !! Wild ones,, sugar sweet, cost -0- just have to eat more !!
-
just don,t choke on the seeds....
-
