Title: Are these andirons?
Post by: Gunther1379 on April 09, 2013, 09:37:09 PM
Found 2 of these a few days ago and have had no luck finding anything like or about them. They are very heavy and stand about 20" tall appear to be bronze gilded and have no marks that I have found on them. Any ideas on what they are or places I could further my search would be a huge help. I am skeptical of the andiron idea because they have no where to attach to a frame or stand.

Can't see any andiron features on it from your pics.

Just look like decorative pieces!

They might well stand to either side of a grand fireplace.....or any place.

I don't see andirons though.

I would agree...to me, they look as if they belong to a garniture set. Maybe with a dore bronze clock between them?

Thanks KC,Rauville and ghopper for you responses. I have had a lot of fun researching them. Pulled them out of the trash because they were shiny.

Good dumpster-dive , Gunther1379 !

I'd take issue with saying there are no marks on your item (as indicated in the image of its' base , upsidedown position  ... there is a mark at the center of the casting) !
