Title: Rescued from a Skip
Post by: bigwull on April 11, 2013, 06:56:52 AM
Whilst at the re-cycling yard yesterday,I saw a man about to throw this small oak gate leg table into the skip.I asked him  if i could have it....and here it is,..it needs a fare amount of restoration,i.e. sanding down and re-varnish, but..I think its worth doing,I like the Barley twist legs..and the fact that it has 2 drop leafs,..once finished it will sit nicely in our hall

Now why can't I find pieces like that being tossed here?  That is going to look amazing when you refinish it. ;)

That, Sapphire has made it an even better find....Avril will be pleased...not because it could have a lot of value...but because...we got it for nothing...and once I have restored it,she,ll love it even more...just like she does me... ;D

HA, you are lucky that dude didn't have a wood burner.  ;D ;D

Get most of that black stain bleached out of the top and a kinda dark stain put back on it and it will be a beauty.

She'll not only like it even better once you finish hit......she'll likely find it more useful......than you   ;)

Love barley twist legs! Nice save Bigwull! Here's my favorite photo of a barley twist table. This is a photo known as "Woman in Striped Stockings". It is part of the series of photos taken of Storyville (New Orleans) prostitutes from 1890 through the 1920s. The glass negatives were found hidden in a couch and they had been taken by photographer E.J. Bellocq. They are a fascinating glimpse into 19th century brothels. Look larger version at the link below and check out the little feathered chairs and other trinkets on the table!
