can anyone tell me about this map/poster? I found this at a garage sale years ago and haven't been able to find out much about it, I think it might be some kind of tourism poster thats printed on cloth from the 50's, any info about when this was made or what it was made for would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

What size is it? I agree with you, it looks like the printed tablecloths sold at souvenir shops in the 50's.

I don't think it would have been a table cloth, the material is pretty rough and it's only about 36" x 36", maybe 40" x 40" at the largest.

Judging by the size of it..this could be what we call a Tea Towel..see link...and pic of one of Scotland...they are souvenir items...and we use them for drying dishes...

These were sold as souveniers in gift shops back in the 50`s !! Traveling to another state was a pretty big deal back then !! Everyone bought souveniers !! Things were quite a bit different !! I think they are table toppers not intended to cover the whole table but turned caddy corner also used as throws on back of sofa/chair !! !! But they did have tea towels and all sorts of kitchen items !! Its just a rough cotton fabric !! But thinner than barkcloth of that era !!

Thanks for the info everyone, I don't suppose this would have any real value other than sentimental would it?

If you look at my link..you,ll see prices, although in ££..most map/towels are of the US,average price in $$..is $20...therefore yours if your lucky might be about the same

Some people do collect them but not for much money !! What is it mounted on ??

Mart is correct on this. They were from the roadside tourist stand era of the 50's. Florida seems to be the leader in tourist collectibles because the flamingos and alligators are kitsch icons. Other states do not seem to command much attention except for local collectors. Texas brings good prices because Mart lives there and her face is on many tablecloths and other items and is desirable.

If that were true Texas would be at the bottom of the bag !! ;D
