Found this metal object in the woods, it says PURITAN 42 Made in USA on it.
Can someone give me some history on this? Maybe a link for my to read up on it?

Need to figure out what it is before we can find history on it !! It looks like cast iron with thin metal sides,, is it ?? Does it have handles ?? Describe it please !!
-
Looks like a rusted-out carcass of a Puritan #42 2-burner kerosene stove , to me , tabbyhatton ... circa late 1890's !
-
Excellent Fancypants !! I couldn`t make heads or tales of whats left of it !!
-
There was a two burner that was sold on Worthpoint but couldn`t see the pic !! Few other sites said they were classic camp stoves !! Maybe that's why it was in the woods !!
-
Yup , ubetcha about being "frequent camp-stove used" , out in the boonies , mart !
Saw one in the 70's , in SW Missouri , I seem to recall (that id plate set off my memory on this one) , packed in a wooden crate with 4 legs removed for packing/stowage .
I don't remember if it was baked enamel or lampblacked , though .

It's probably been a long time since anybody used these for heating laundry water in the back porch...but, I remember my Great Aunt having one for that purpose.

Great picture, fancypants. Loved it. ;D
Now that took a great imagination to repurpose that old bicycle.

OK, I'll retract my comment, there is a better picture of it on the link you cited. In the picture that was posted it looked like it was almost centered in the trunk of the tree but it is not.
So yup, it was hung on a branch of that tree some 20+ years ago.

I remember seeing an old barrel band that had been stuck on a tree branch and the tree grew around it like that. The bike photo is fabulous!
