Title: Just curious of age
Post by: Buddie11 on April 20, 2013, 03:50:24 PM
Any idea of the age of this horse yoke? I know it doesn't have much value,I figure early 1900's. Your opinion?

Its a singletree for use with a two horse work or wagon hitch !! For a 2 horse hitch you need two of these and a doubletree !!   Can`t really tell age since they didn`t change much from 1800`s to 1940 or so !!  1900 is a good guess !!

Mart;
Remember which end of the horse the neckyoke goes on? :D Singletrees have the irons made with hooks in order to attach the traces at the rear of the horse.

Back to the neckyoke being discussed.
That "D" on the end iron might have some relation to the Deering Harvester company. It would take some research to determine.

NAH, that is called a "singletree" ..... and that is the way it was made ...... and that one is a "light-duty" one for pulling a buggy or carriage.

And there is really no way to determine the actual age of them other than "pre-1950" .... unless you have old family pictures of it being used or an old catalog with a picture of it being offered for sale.

The ones used for pulling HEAVY loads were a lot more massive and stronger.
Like this one ...........

No Mart, fess up, because you live in Texas you are out on the prairie all day long, riding the horses, pulling the plow, getting hit by tumbleweeds, staying up late at night around the campfire to ward off the coyotes....  LOL
