Title: Antique pictures made by THE ULLMAN MFG. CO, N.Y.
Post by: betty on January 26, 2005, 11:36:06 AM
I have two large framed photographs, the  copyright says 1899 THE ULLMAN MFG. CO, N.Y. One is of a man and a woman, they are dressed sort of colonial. The other is a woman sitting on a beach, with an umbrella.
I am curious to know if anyone knows anything about these pictures or the manufactering company. Thanks, betty

I too, have one of their prints. I remember reading somewhere
that they are best known for making  post cards and sepia photographs.
I looked in my favorites files and found this link....
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?pp/g...d(gsc+5a17674)) (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?pp/gottscho:@field(NUMBER+@band(gsc+5a17674)))
it simply shows the manufacturing building and address.

We may have the same print . It is of a Pilgrim couple in snow with
a small village behind them. I got it this summer at an auction.
It is a very interesting photo. I wondered if it may have been
some sort of reinactment of a famous story. Not really sure but
very much enjoy looking at it. Iam fairly sure it is in its original frame.
The glass has that wavy surface  and the frame  is black laquer
with gold accents on the edges.

I can nearly make out the word sepia above the copyright info.

Best Regards
