Title: Older tureen, raised capital T on bottom..can't identify a maker.
Post by: alwestf22 on May 16, 2013, 04:21:42 PM
Hello all. You were so helpful on my last post, that I thought I'd ask about something I found in February. Older tureen, but the mark on the bottom is just a raised capital T. Does anyone know if this is a makers mark? Searching has been quite difficult with no emblem or more letters. Thanks!

I don`t think that is a makers mark !!  Its a mid century design,, my mother had a saucer with same design for a wall hanger, !!  Hers didn`t have a mark,, never looked for a T  !!  Makers marks are not normally done in that manner since it doesn`t tell anything important !! A mfr would want everyone to know that it was made by them and would clearly have a stamp or impressed mark or label !!  This probably came from a set and may have had a stick on label !! It is not an expensive piece !!

I believe these are generally recognized as being from Royal China, under the "Currier and Ives" pattern. That bottom "mark" is probably related more to a production line code than anything.

Much of this ware was used as premiums in grocery stores back in the 60's and 70's.

Wow! Thank you so much! I'm not big on re-selling my pieces, so the dates and history behind them are what most intrigues me! You guys are very helpful!
