I have nothing on this. I can find nothing on it? I am not even sure if it is a shrine or building or what. I have a round, red painted piece that appears to go with it, but it appears to be missing some pieces. It is a little dirty, but is otherwise excelent condition.

What is your location ?? Is this something you bought ??

I am in Columbus Ohio. I went to an estate sale and bought this along with other antiques and asian collectables. I am hesitant to tell you what I paid because you will think it is a fake. There was a tremendous amount of stuff to auction so there were three auctions going on one for jewelry, one for "high end glass and Jade" and another roaming the house auctioning everything else. I was with everything else, my wife was at the jade table. I got this with a buch of other stuff I think I paid $5. There was not many in my crowd interested in asian pieces. We paid $10 for the immortal statue I put up and it has to be worth more than that. When the jade sold half or more of the crowd left.

That doesn`t surprise me !! Many of these things don`t sell well here !! Can you tell what its made of wood, metal, plaster ?? I haven`t enlarged it yet !!
-
It is wood and very delicate. I broke a little peice of the carving when I picked it up yesterday, the base was perfect before that.
-
It does look like a shrine of some sort but it doesn`t look Japanese or Chinese to me !! But I admit its a little out of my area !! Looks more like Thailand, Cambodia or that area !!
-
My wife is familiar with thai buddist stuff, and she does not think it is Thai.
-
I think it is something someone brought back from Siam (Thailand) in the 50s. My brother was in the merchant marine all his life. When he first started to travel he brought back all kinds of Asian stuff. There was a set of utensils that had similar figures that were from Siam. There was also a thing my mother referred to as the monstrosity. It was an man riding an eagle that was riding a dragon the was riding a dog that was riding a snake that was riding .... I forget but it was intricately carved from very fragrant wood.

It may have been Sandlewood...or Cedar...
-
I sold a pendant from Siam that had a similar shaped headpiece as the top of this !! That's what made me think of Thailand !!
-
Could you please take a close up of the figures in the top piece and please place it on a dark/solid color background?!
Thanks!

better pics

it seems there is a bigger piece I am missing, as it sits the nothing holds the red disc up
-
Where did the disc come from ?? It wasn`t in the first pics !!!
-
it is the piece that I said appears to go with it. It does not fit perfectly, and it was just in the general vicinity of the piece at the auction so I figured it went with it. Still it is missing something, like a bigger piece that went behind the red disk.
-
If I remember correctly Fancypants did some traveling in that area !! Maybe he could tell you what it is and if anything goes with it !!
-
Reminds me of some items I have seen dealing with Buddha that were Korean...items on heaven and hell. I believe the correct reference is paradise and purgatory.
-
But what exactly are we looking at ?? Is it a shrine or a decorative item ?? I don`t know what to search for !!
-
what you are all looking at,..is a few broken pieces of a a much larger, jigsaw puzzle...which will remain a jigsaw puzzle...and ,an incomplete jigsaw puzzle is only fit for the bin....
-
Not too helpful, but I had a buddhist neighbor that had something very similar to this in his house. He even had some red spot light type thing lighting it up 24/7.

Thanks for your input, it may not have any value that is fine. As I said I paid $5 for it so I am not that worried. If nothing else it is a conversation piece. I wont be throwing it away though.
