Interesting table I picked up for $50 at a garage sale. Any input would be great. The top is marble and obviously removeable (it just lays on top of it). Table is 29" long, 28" high and 19.5" wide. Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Late Victorian after Eastlake. Nice piece circa 1880 approximately. Walnut and marble. A very common parlor table in its day. Value where I live is about 100.00
-
I like the style of the lower part...not too keen on the marble...too cold and impersonal...and easily broken...over here, i,ve seen similar,..sell for around £30/£50,...which is around $50/75....
-
Not particularly rare, but handsome IMO.
Yes, Eastlake as stated. I'd say around 1890. $100 - $200 around here.
You got a bargain my friend!! :D
-
Thank you very much. The first pic is the top of the marble while the last is the underside (Just to show it)

Most Eastlake furniture I like,, but I have to say,,these are the ugliest tables ever made !! Not knocking yours but in general I mean !! Remember Charles Eastlake only wrote the book,,he never made furniture so each cabinetmaker had free reign to use their imagination as to what he was talking about !! His vision was not always represented as he intended I think !! Whoever made these tables should have read the book more closely,,or laid off the booze !! But yes !! It is interesting !!

Nice find! I'm with ghopper, over here it would go for $200 at least if done up right.
Maybe wet sand & polish the marble...and get some old wooden castors on it. :D

...Castors...My Dear Mart,...plural....not singular....Castors as they are known..in the proper English language...not the Bastardized version that you speak...the world over are metal, wood, porcelain, plastic wheels that fit onto the legs of tables.chairs, beds,.etc ..and two legged Dogs...then there,s the other Castor...which is a star..in the Gemini Constellation....th en there is Castor,.& Pollux...from Grecian/Roman mythology..as for the other Castor....nowt wrong wi that....its good for yer Bowels... ;D
-
American english RULES, trust me on this.
Look, in England it's castors, in America it's casters, either is correct however, since no one has paid any attention to the brits in terms of science, engineering, medicine, exploration, technology, etc in over 100 years...........

More Horse Shit....btw...hope none of yer toys were broken..... ;D

Nope, Mart is right! Casters is plural, Caster is one. Castor is a plant, seed, oil or wax.
Way to go Mart!!!!
-
Castors over here...long before they were over there,..and were being used long before your ancestors even had furniture...no need for castors in a Teepee, or a Wigwam... ;D
-
Sounds like someone could use a little castor oil! :) My grandmother would have whipped that bottle out with a teaspoon for you in a heartbeat! LOL

Nowt wrong with my bowels....twice a day without fail.....my brain,s never been so clear.... ;D
