hi,guys...more junk...i rescued this pair of ?...from being dumped, they were about to be thrown into a skip...so i asked the man if i could have them....and here they are....once I get the house finished...it,ll be into the garden ,and i thought these, after i,ve cleaned them, and painted them, would look ok hanging on the wall,..but what are they....Avril, said for cracking coconuts... ;D...i,m thinking along the agricultural line,..or maybe...for removing tyres from old cars....what do y,all think, the one standing upright is 13in long and weighs 5.5lb...the other one is more heavy duty, its 15in long but weighs 12.5lbs...
-
You could always start an S & M dungeon. ;D ;D ;D
-
Maybe Avril was,nt that far away....with Nut crackers.... ;D ;D ;D
-
AHEM.......
-
AHEM.......
you,ve got a mind like a sewer...she meant Coconuts.... ;D
-
Does it turn on axis,, and tighten with screw ??
-
Hi Mart,..they work on the principle..of a big nut cracker, the side handle can be slackened off, so that the gap gets wider, then the side handle can be screwed in,and the gap gets narrower...see pics,..the round flats on the end..tell me that these could be for breaking the bead on a tyre,...like old fashioned style,

Here we go, lol Aren't they just clamps? If you put two pieces of wood with glue, you use these to keep those boards from moving. Oh, believe me I could think of ways to use them though. ;D

you,and ghopper should get on well,...minds like a sewer.. ;D.i don,t think they are for clamping wood...as their opening size is limited....
-
I don`t guess you asked the guy you got them from ?? Or is that too logical ?? ;D
-
Maybe for spot/etc welding or vulcanizing ?
-
If it's welding my husband might know. I'll ask him tomorrow. He's sleeping and he gets up early. I could use them for a giant "Breath Ease"!. ;D ;D (That's for snoring. Just in case you haven't heard of the product.)
-
You're having pretty good luck fishing down at the skip aren't you? Speaking of fishing; are there any boat builders in the area? Your tools have a somewhat similar design to the old shipwright clamps.

They are just a different design of a clamp ...... and are quite handy given the fact you tighten them from the side ..... rather than the end.
They are called "lapstrake" clamps.
Here is a "home" made one.

You might be correct Rauville, the recycling centre that i rescued them from, was in Arbroath, which has a small shipyard for building wooden hulled boats....and seeing Cogars pic now makes me think,it was used for holding the ribs,of a wooden hull,..thanks for helping out....
