I think my teapot is old and not to compare with the one your show in the e bay page . The holes from the drain are also hand made . And the decoration is more Iznik style or east European ?
-
i,m not comparing the one i showed, i,m using it as an example as to what yours is,...as for the holes on yours, ..of course they will be hand made,..how else would a potter get the holes in the first place....
-
having had a good search around....i am inclined to agree that this teapot...may indeed be of Iznik...or Turkish origin....its called a Caydanlık...in Turkey.....
-
That's maybe a good way to search now on the Turkish name . I think this teapot because it is porcelain and the gold decoration is gold that it could be quite old .
-
It's not very old.
Wouldn't know what it's worth but i'd guess not very much and you'd have to pay me to have it ! ;D
-
I do not agree with about value and age . So we just have to wait if somebody recolonizes the style preciously .
-
You disagree but know nothing about it ?
Okey dokey.
-
Well I do have some knowledge about antiques because i collect already more the 30 years . But to leave a blanc question on a forum is given more and better results at the end .

Spot on bottom looks to have been made with a warmer over a tea light ect !! You can`t estimate age by gold decoration !! Half of what was produced during the 20th century had 24K gold trim !! Since gold doesn`t change over the years that would be difficult !! Not much age showing on this teapot,, I think mid century at best !!
-
Gilding is a novices trick of making something look older and more valuable than it is.
My guess is it's modern Russian or bordering countries.

Agreed.
-
There is no wear on the bottom at all. I don't believe it's very old, but that doesn't mean it's not an interesting piece. GG
-
I agree GG27,, its a nice one !! Not a style that I am familiar with though would agree with Ipcress on area !!

Having collected all kinds of tea paraphenalia over the years....
This is an attractive ceramic teapot with infuser. The style is still being made. From the looks of yours, I would bet late 1980's. However I am just going off of a picture, maybe you might need to take it in somewhere for a hands on if you believe it is older/more valuable.
-
i don,t see this pot being that old....for if it were...then i would expect to see far more tannin deposits inside....looking at this one....it could have been made last week ;D
-
Bigwull is right !! Tea stains over the years no matter how hard you try to keep it off !!
-
Not to be to clever for my age but porcelain teapots do not stain that much even when there old . The glazing is to hard to absorb the dirt . Have some experience with Chinese and Japanese porcelain from a respectable age like Arita and Kangxi (18th century) including the little teapots . So saying there's not enough staining has a link to the age off porcelain is not right .
-
Well I would beg to differ....tannin stains everything...porcel ain included...and the only way to get rid of it..is to soak the pot/cup..in bleach.or rinse in soda crystals......to prove my point..i will as of today...leave one of our cups, that we use to drink tea...i will only rinse it in hot water ..you, may be amazed as to how much tannin there will be on the porcelain after 1 week....as for your teapot....you may think its valuable....we however...do not....after a great deal of searching..we have,nt found anything that tells us its valuable....if it was as hold as you think....then i would expect it to be more worn...after all it is an every day object....this looks like it was made yesterday...

I don't think I have said that I think it is a teapot off great value . And like the Scots as me being totally Dutch would never pay to much off course . I just paid 1 Euro for it so I will survive . But i do think it's older then what you think so patience will tell .

please don,t class the Scots...as being like the Dutch.....i lived in Nederland....and know that Dutchmen ...have very deep pockets.....and very short arms...i have long arms....and empty pockets...... ;D
-
just a wee remembrance about the invention off copper wire .. Was it not a Dutchman and a Scotsman fighting over a copper coin ? And because off the pulling the wire was invented ?
-
You can't rely totally on tannin. I have plenty of very old pots that were rarely ever used...thus you didn't get the staining. It is only a wee part of discernment.
Irregardless...it looks modern.
-
Thanks and here's some off the other pictures I have made in detail . Just have a look how the gold decoration is in close up .
-
even with that obvious repair to the spoot....you did well for your 1 euro.....had it been worth much more ..then i,m sure the seller from whom you bought it would have asked for more....".perhaps they saw you coming" ;D
