Title: Baker & Co. curio cabinet help with age and value
Post by: xamxam on June 19, 2013, 06:15:31 PM
Good Evening All,
I purchased this curio cabinet at a house sale and would like to know more information about the cabinet.  If anyone knows the age or value I would be delighted to hear from you.  All of the shelving is included, just not in the cabinet.
I have attached some photo's.  Please let me know if you need more information or pictures.
Thanks for your help!!!

I am having a little trouble making out the wood and form of the piece but it looks like a curved glass china closet circa 1915-1920 and probably oak veneered.

Beautiful cabinet. I have Baker furniture. They make quality furniture. I think they still exist if I remember right. I'll look for my old post.

Having searched a little...I can tell you that Baker & Co...are a very good maker...and their pieces are not cheap....looking at this latest pic...i.d have to say this cabinet is a mix of solid and veneered....i.m not convinced that its oak...the back board might be....but...the colour of the front is more mahogany....or maybe walnut....as for value....well,, for a start over here in the UK....curved glass alone is not cheap.....i,m thinking this is maybe Edwardian....value. ...phew!!....$200+...i don,t know...to be truthful...but i,m thinking more....

The style appears to be Empire Revival probably late 20`s or 30`s !! It has an overall heavy look and scroll feet typical of that period !!  Can`t see the wood well enough to guess but many of these were oak !!  May or may not be veneered !!  These cabinets were one of the few pieces that sometimes were built with solid wood !!

Yepper, curved glass china cabinet, betting 1920's.  This is known as a Bow Front China Cabinet. And Mart beat me to it on the information she just posted!

These don't make you rich but are great family hand-me-downs.

In our neck of the woods....$200 - $250 in okay shape.  Pushing it to get $350.

If original glass, the glass will look slightly "wavy" in optical distortion.

Here's a similar one by Ebert and Co.
