Title: Antique Lamp?

Got this today from a thrift store in my hometown for $4. Does anyone know what it would be used for? It is definitely casted. There is also patina on the bottom leading me to believe there is some copper in it. It says it was made in Italy but there is no maker's mark. Any help would be appreciated :)

It does seem to have a little residue inside. Could be ash! That would make this my second ashtray. I really do like it. I wonder how old it is...

Why thank you! It may not be very old, but it does have a lot of character.
