Title: Nice Platform Rocker. Wife said Noooooooo!
Post by: frogpatch on June 24, 2013, 09:07:05 AM
The proprietor of the Allenwood General Store's name is Jeff. He had just acquired this platform rocker even though he is trying get rid of stuff. Sounds familiar. The condition of this piece is unbelievable. It must have sat in a backroom for a century. The caning is original and perfect. The finish is also untouched. No wear at all. It looks as it would have the day it was purchased except a bit darker. It was marked at 120.00. I really wanted to make an offer on it because I liked the look of it and the condition. My wife said no, we do not need it. Being she was the one holding the cash, the conversation ended at that point. In hindsight she was right. I weigh over 200 pounds so I would never sit in it. It would take up a floor space which, where we live, is at a premium. I guess I was lucky to have the unreasonable voice of reason with me that day. I was not even going to mention that box of old license plates dating back to the 30's.

I thought I would post a picture of it and see if you think it would have been a good buy at around 95.00.

Unless you're starving then perhaps someone else is being overly controlling and needs to unclench when the right opportunity - such as this rocker - presents itself.

I think in some strange way Wullie and I am on the same page here.
Here is the deal. I have a storage unit in Florida that can fill a 23' box truck. It is full of stuff that I have no room for until we move into a bigger place. In there are several large pieces of antique and vintage furniture. I have another storage unit here in NJ that is full of stuff I have no room for. This weekend I have to pick up three pieces of furniture that my wife was given by her mother that will push another piece over to storage. I do not have much of an argument here. I do have one focal point when you walk into our place that needs something small and decorative but not a rocker. I do have room in my office where I work in a beach chair, by choice.

Is a beach chair uncomfortable Rauville? I could spend my waking life in one. I could have bought an ergonomic chair from Office Max. I sat on an antique chair from 1850. I love my Rio beach chair. I sit and write all day and sometimes doze off. There is nothing more comfortable than a beach chair. Please read my blog post entitled Shore-gonomics. You may enjoy it.  http://garycunnane.blogspot.com/ (http://garycunnane.blogspot.com/)

We call it an ass and it is not big and fat, Bigwull. I might weigh over two hundred pounds but I am very tall. Here is a picture of me and my wife.
