Title: Why Chas. Dickens instead of Charles Dickens?
Post by: kdj on June 29, 2013, 06:41:32 AM
Hello,
My book, A Childs History of England, has Chas. Dickens on the cover and Charles Dickens on the title page. Why was Chas. Dickens used on the cover of the book? Also, there is no copyright or publishing date. The publisher is M.A. Donohue, Chicago. So far, I have not found a copy of it on the usual book selling sites.
Thank you!

Check the abaa.com website if you haven't already. They had a few, but they were all different publishers.

That website is very reputable. I would email one of the ones selling a similar one and ask them about yours.

Chas is a shortened version of Charles, like Chuck, and features on some of his works.

Yours looks like an early 20th century reprint. Worth very little.

Have we ruled out the possibility that Sonny and Cher had a son no one has heard about?
