Title: Iron Chandelier ID and Age?
Post by: alchemyvintage on June 29, 2013, 03:15:38 PM
I have acquired this monster of a chandelier and am in love!  Hand-forged iron with 6-arms and a total of 25 lights.  It is 48" Tall and 36" Wide.  It has been re-wired.  No crystals, but the rosettes are present (may be replacements).  I've been researching for 3 days and I've never had anything like this before.  Really hoping to get more information such as age and origin.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!  Thank you!

Where did you get this chandelier ?? Are the rosettes glass ?? Unless there is a name somewhere,, no real way to know !!  Many of that size were custom made !!

Mart, I acquired it in Indiana but understand from the seller that her sister had acquired in New York over 25 years ago at auction.  Given the size and number of lights leans me towards French, but the construction doesn't seem indicative of that origin.  It also has a Gothic vibe to it, but knowing that it probably had crystals steers me away from that assumption. The rosettes are not glass, but plastic which leads me to believe they are replacements. I realize will probably never know the manufacturer. Originally had thought late 19th C, but now I'm thinking it dates to early 1900-1910s?  Not sure what to look for to make that call either way. Thanks for the input!  Any idea on what you'd put as a resale value?

Referencing French, based only on size/styling given the size and number of lights.  Not thinking manufactured in France.  Workmanship not on par for that.  I just took another look and no other holes through the iron, except there the rosettes are attached and at the very top short arms. Restaurant....hadn't thought of that :)  So, probably American-custom made then!  Maybe even later for date too?  Thanks again for your insight!

I don't see anything that looks early,,I think mid century or later !! But wait and let Frogpatch look at it !! He worked in the lighting industry for years and he may be familiar with the NY area !! He would likely be better to assess the chandelier !!
