Title: 1900 Steamer Trunk - White Star Line stickers
Post by: Kevin_Bones on July 01, 2013, 09:40:53 AM
Hey guys,

I bought a 1900 Steamer trunk to re-sell. When I got it home I decided to keep it, because I don't have a dresser. I decided to get some pics of it today because I'm not sure if I want to sell it yet or not. When I closed it up and got a better look at the trunk, I noticed it had White Star Line stickers all over it. There is about 5 of those stickers. I am wondering if that makes the trunk any more interesting, or gives it any more value. It probably obviously wasn't on the Titanic, but what I am wondering is, should  I try and research the history of this trunk a little bit more extensively before I make a decision on what I want to do with it? I have pics if anyone wants to see them!

Thanks
Kevin

Ok, I'm not sure that they will help, as I just want to know if I should research the history of this trunk after finding the White Star Liner stickers. The stickers have nothing written on them - doesn't look like any ink was rubbed off either. Now that I have some pictures uploaded can anybody confirm the year of this trunk? The guy I bought it from said 1900.

Doesn't look like any ink has been written and rubbed off or anything.

Beauty !

Is there a makers label anywhere ?

On the " cabin to Liverpool label " i'm sure i can see faint writing.

Date would be around 1910 - 1920 as White Star Dominion Line came in to effect in 1908

I haven't found any markings on it anywhere. I don't know if I'm going to keep it or sell it yet. I want to keep it as a dresser because I've been using an old army shipping crate for one the past few months (lol). But I only paid $50 for it and there's a potential to make a good amount of money to go pickin' with  ;D

I am going to take another look for any writing anywhere.

I have bad luck with dressers - they make them so flimsy these days. So I bought that old shipping crate and used it cause I don't have much space. I don't think I want to sell the trunk. I looked with a flashlight but still can't see writing, I think I might see "9" marked where room no. is though. I love having a dresser now though. Especially one that I now realize has travelled around a bit.

I thought the French Goyard trunk kinda looked like my trunk, but when I went to look for the Goyard markings I didn't see any. I also checked in the drawers, pulled the drawers out, and stil haven't found anything other then the Eagle Lock co on the lock.

Looks more like an Oshkosh but they have distinctive labels on them.
