Title: Cross and anchor. Is this a Navy gift?
Post by: frogpatch on July 03, 2013, 10:33:17 AM
In the same suitcase that I mentioned in my last post, that no one has answered as of this post, I found this creation.

It is mostly fabric with a metal chain. My wifes cousin was in the Navy during the Vietnam era but everything else in the case was WWII.  No one else was Navy, they were all Army. Is this something that he sent home for his mother?

This symbol is used often  ( anchor, heart and cross)  in everything from charms for jewelry to tattoos. It symbolizes Love (the heart) Faith (The cross) and Hope (the anchor).  Looks to be hand made folk art type of piece.

Thanks Wendy. That is interesting. The colors are very bright. Even more so than the image.

FYI I am posting a torchiere lamp in a day or so and would lie you to tell me who made the glass shade. If you do not mind, keep one eye out for it.

Not a typical "colored" navy gift!  :)

Cheerful!
