Title: Mystery Peru Cufflink
Post by: CallieGray on July 06, 2013, 06:16:23 PM
Hello everyone!  I haven't visited here in quite a while, but after digging through some sewing stuff I found in the basement I came across this odd, antique looking cufflink!  It seems to be made of 18 K gold and .925 silver.  I would like to know who made it, where it was from (other than Peru which I already know) and possibly its age and value.  If anyone can help me solve this mystery it would be much appreciated!!

Here is the picture on the front (I have no idea what the symbol means...):

Here is the side view:

Here is the back view, where it says 18 K, 925, and PERU:

After doing some research I thought that this might be Viracocha, an Inca god.  I saw this similarity because of the crown on the head and the staff it was holding on the left side.
If you can help at all with this that would be great!!

i,d agree with you on it being Viracocha....found this pic of him.....do you have the pair....the insert is 18k,...what is the weight of the cufflink...

Awesome! Thanks bigwull! I never would have been certain without your help and that pic!  Unfortunately, I currently have not found the other cufflink.  I went through the whole thing of sewing stuff where I found the first one and I have not come across the second at all.  I realize that this will probably largely decrease the value, but I'm hoping I'll find the cufflink someday!  I just weighed it, and the single cufflink weighs .2 oz, or 5 grams.

say for instance...the gold insert weighs just 1g....thats around $30....then 4g of silver...$5...maybe...but if you had the pair....then i,d say they,d be worth well over $120..maybe more.....
