This Lamp we are told is from a ship ,My dad got it in Vancouver BC Canada .It is very heavy ,either made out of Brass or Cast Iron. The company that made it is General Electric.co It states 650W , 250 Volts ,General Electric Co. It has either 7120 or 7-20 hard to figure that one out .

A picture of the plug and of the light bulb socket(s) with the shade removed would help.
-
Yes !! Need to see without the shade !!
-
Ok we will do that =) The electrical cord has been redone ,but yes that makes sense we shall remove the shade ,I believe my dad got it in the 60s

I was just curious if there was something special about its rating of -- 650W , 250 Volts, ... but if it has been rewired then that makes my question null and void. Thus I now have to assume its original electrical components were rated to withstand that amount of current.
GE apparently made it for both domestic and export, ....... to wit:
Mixed 230V/400V Three-phase electric power (common in northern and central Europe) or 230V single-phase based household wiring.
