I believe this is something for potted plants, but am unsure. I seem to remember seeing something similar with a fern coming out of the top.
Thanks for your help,
Dr. TR Morris

It looks like a cache pot` or a cover for a potted plant !! Just to hide the pot its growing in which are sometimes not too pretty !! Could also have been used for artificial flower arrangements !! How big is it ??
-
cover to hide potted plants.... ;D.....looks more like the lower half of an Indian teak table.....and its lost its top....unlike this one....
-
Can you please tell us the size/dimensions of your item? Thanks!
-
It stands 21" tall and the circumference is 57". I don't believe it is the base for a table-- as it is hinged at every joint and would make a pretty wobbly table. I've looked all over google and-- probably because I don't know what specifically to search for-- I can't find anything like it.

I own one very similar however my one appears more oriental.
I know nothing about mine except it was in my 98 year old grandmothers house in England.

Its easier to figure out when we know all the details !! Does it have a bottom ??
-
No bottom or top. It is made of 8 carved rectangular pieces, each connected to the next with 2 small hinges. It folds together. It may be the base to one of these tables-- but I don't understand why the pieces would be hinged instead of a rigid joint.
-
I have no idea but the one above is hinged as well !!
-
Yes all my panels are hinged together as well.
Did not know what it was until I found the top.
-
How unfortunate to have this one without a top! That looks like a beautiful table you have-- I suppose have a nice "fern shade"

Find a nice tall plant and use it to cover/hide the ugly nursery pots !! Or you could get a large ceramic tile and the store might take the corners off for you, then glue it to a similarly cut wood base slightly larger than the tile, glue or nail some trim around the tile and set it on top !! Or just get a piece of marble cut and use it !!
