Marble base? we are trying to identify this item as it was a gift from a family member and not sure of the history. if anyone can help it would be appreciated! the coin in the front is a quarter.

I remember seeing several items from the 50's that featured animals with scarves wrapped like this suggesting toothaches!

it is from at least the 50's and his grandfather was a dental tech (made falsies and partials), it was given to him as a gift.

FYI Here is a Sylvan toothache dog. In 50's they loved animals with toothaches????!!!!

I have to change my previous answer...believe it is onyx!!
Search onyx ashtray with bronze elephant and you will see alot of bases like your...but the elephants are different!
Feel possibly some company had these made for customers!
