Title: Bavarian Plate
Post by: Jannitg2003 on February 23, 2005, 02:43:51 PM
I have a very old plate made in Bavaria , on the edge of the plate is a light blue and the centre is white,, with beauitful pink flowers going from the centre to the edge of the plate on one side.  The marking on the back are in gold a solid gold line l 1 2.  Can u tell me the date of this plate.  Thank you very much appreciated.  The straight solid gold line is fairly wide , and appears higher than the 1 2 .

Thank you

With just that much to go on, I struck out.  If this was part of a dinner set, other pieces may have been marked with a name.  And there were decorating studios who bought blanks from porcelain companies, and did their own painting.  And their own marks.

If it is a transfer design, there's a subtle pattern of little "dots".  Sometimes the transfer is enhanced with hand trim.  Hand painting looks more brush stroke.

A handpainted display plate, marked Bavaria, can sell for $75 in a shop. Quality, painting style, condition all count.  A handpainted dinnerplate, perhaps $35 ish.
Best wishes, KB     ;)
