Trying to find our any more information on the pictured Silent Butler. On the bottom it has E.P.B which I assume stands for ElectroPlated Brass, though I could be wrong. It also has 'Made in England' and below that what looks like the number '5'. Any help would be appreciated.

E.P.B....does not stand for electro plated brass...it stands for Electro Plated Silver...made in England....the B,stands for Britannia..i,d say this is turn of the century, i.e. early 20th

Hmm, I googled E.P.B last night and all I could come up with is ElectroPlated Brass. It's a very beautiful piece of work and in really good condition. Can't remember what I paid for it but it wasn't much. Think I bought it in Fredericksburg, Tx. Here's a photo of another one I have, on the bottom it has these three markings, on the left a crown, in the center a stylized 'S' and to the right of that a shield with a bar from upper right to lower left. It also has 'silver on copper' stamped into it.

As previously suggested, it's Electroplated Britannia metal

Britannia metal is similar to pewter !! I am on dial up and still trying to see the second pic !! A little tip,, if an item is made here in the states it would likely have meant electroplated brass,, but if made in the UK, EPB is for electroplated Britannia !! So if you look in the future put the country in your search to narrow it down !! They are not always the same !!

Thanks Mart, I'm very new at this though we do have quite a collection, two curio cabinets and a hutch full of various items, mostly silver plate but also some cobalt blue glass.

I've gotten a photo of the hallmark to post for this. The number is the square is a '5' had to look really close with a good flashlight and magnifying glass. Does this mean anything?
