We bought a house and this was in the basement, can someone please help me in the value and age of this?
-
Are there any markings on it any where? How does it operate?
Not really sure what I am seeing! (Yes I have my glasses on Wullie!)
-
Clean it off and see if anything is written on it anywhere !! Take a pic on whatever you find !!
-
Don`t see how it could work as a vacuum being flat on the floor !!

Looks like some kind of a pump to me. Is there any place to connect any kind of a hose? Was/is there a sump pump in the basement? If so maybe this was a way previously used to pump out water. Looks like with the long rod handle and the ball at the end it could be pulled/pushed back and forth to create a suction.

The only reason I think its a vacuum is because I seen this picture on google and it said 1850 vacuum, it also has another part that looks like the handle and has filters inside.
-
Give us the link to the one you found on google so we can see the original !!

Here's a link to the IXL Museum which is where the photo of the vacuum came from, http://hermansville.com/IXLMuseum/Pages/History.htm (http://hermansville.com/IXLMuseum/Pages/History.htm) since it appears as though this museum pertains to the sawmill at Hermansville, Michigan maybe this had something to do with the mill? What you might do is to send your photo to museum@hermansville.com and see what they say.
Hope this helps
Chris

While looking here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_cleaner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_cleaner) I came across this photo https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/71/Vacuum_cleaner_1910.JPG (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/71/Vacuum_cleaner_1910.JPG) which appears to be a newer version of your pneumatic vacuum cleaner.
