What...you never enjoyed a quart of cheap beer during your misspent youth? :D
The maker of the bottle would have been Owens-Illinois.

Early patent. You have number 3 at the base of your bottle. The earlier the patent the smaller the number. Really old bottles don't have patent numbers. It still a really nice old bottle. I would guess 30's ,40's.

thanks all esp greenacres, and rauville, all the beer talk leaves me wondering if perhaps it did hold beer?
-
About how much does it hold ?? Quart or more ??
-
hi mart-a quart for sure
sure these lined the supermarket? at one time-so funny how quick things change and something once so common is now not even seen
-
Just curious how tall is the bottle? I love seeing the different metals they used making bottlles. My 99 year old friend has one drink every day. He says it makes everything circulate better and clears your mind. ;D
-
14 inches tall and 4-1/2 inches round
the website rauville gave has one with the numbers 6 5 4 and this info on it
The diamond/oval/I mark is by far the most common identification mark on glass containers found in trash dump sites in the United States from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s

Here you go !! This site has their entire 1906 bottle catalogue !!
-
mart-having fun looking it over but I don't think my bottle is that old...
-
Neither do I but look for the shape !! Is it a very thick bottle ?? I think its a sparkling wine or an ale !!
-
when I looked thru the link you gave me I thought it looked like a whiskey bottle, and they were sold in a case
it is almost like a soda pop glass thickness
-
I am almost positive it a sparkling wine or an ale !! Not sure how big a magnum size is !! But its larger than a champagne bottle I think !!
-
think you may be right

;D ;D I hafta admit that your comment itself was also "so funny", to me anyway, because ....... beer in brown quart bottles on supermarket shelves in pre 1960 ... is akin to chicken teeth, ..... something that was never seen.
"Brown" is for beer cause it keeps the light out.

Beer has never been in Pennsylvania markets. We have state stores. That's why everyone likes to shop in New Jersey. Mart I have a similar bottle in green. I thought it was a magnate too. It's to large for beer. I'm not a beer connoisseur, but I like the smaller bottles.

Yes they should check every trunk going over the bridge. ;D
