Title: My old bottles
Post by: greenacres on August 12, 2013, 06:35:44 PM
I have posted many bottles. I've never put up my "Dead Stuck for Bugs". I love the names on old bottles. Then the next is a J.C. Baker &Co.

This the bottom. This also a medicine bottle which I tried to research the maker of the medicine, but didn't find much.

Not a common bottle, so I couldn't find much. It says "ECIUTERRO, No1, PREPARED BY A.G. GRODLEWSKI, PLYMOUTH, PA.

I do have a question. This is one of my lastest bottles. It has the rounded bottoms. Was this to attach to your belt? They couldn't stand on a table. Maybe the cork went in and then it wouldn't leak. It just seems it would be a drink to go.

greenacres--so love your collection-how many bottles do you think you have roughly, and which colors of glass are worth the most would you say?

I posted two of the bottles on the antique bottle forum. They simply told me they were good bottles. Thanks for the site mart. Does that site there open for you? Sugarcube I have a lot. Here are the major thing about bottles. Preferably they should be pontiled, then if the stars are aligned it would be a colored bottle with no chips. I never had them appraised and I learned that bottle books may not be accurate.  One of my bottles I watched on an auction just recently sold for a $100. I don't think it's my best or favorite.

You need to find privies, or my case a landfill from the turn of the century. Also my husband rehabs old properties. We find a lot of things. Its been quiet lately or he's not telling, ;D. I have accumulated a lot of stuff. ;D

never quite understood the reason(s)  glass bottles landed in the loo--maybe the dead bug one makes sense but any and all bottles seemed to be tossed there--

Think of why they came up with awnings. They use chamber pots and dumped it in the privies along with the trash. that's why they got "Yellow Fever".

There were few if any trash collectors, no recycling centers, couldn`t just let them collect in a pile !!  Privy`s were filled in every so often so where better than down the hole and covered up ??

Thanks for sharing your bottles!!!!  My sis-in-law was cleaning out the family home and having a sale.  Someone came and asked if she had any bottles for sale and she directed them around back.  She never saw them come back and all the bottles worth-while were gone!!!!  Grrrrr.

A tumbler knocks value down a good 50% !!
