I dug this out from under some garbage in an old house where it had been buried for years by the looks of it. There is some kind of lens under all that rust and from what I can see of it looks dark, not clear. It has a plate on with the serial #7286760 and 115 volts 60-cycle American Motors Corp Detroit Michigan. It has a 3 prong plug on the back and sits on a base with mounting holes in it. I don't what the tube sticking out from the side is for but it either brass or copper. Its a little over 11" across and 11" tall. The whole thing weighs a ton so whatever carried it had to be pretty heavy duty. Thanks for the help as always. I'll post as many pics as I can.

Looks like a 110-120vac refridgerator/air conditioner compressor (with the external capacitor) for freon-12 gas , and for sure not an automotive item , jdanko !

I had a friend (true story) with a confused childhood .... they had a Hotpoint fridge & a Coldspot stove !

On the serious side , you might want to take care with how you store this item & make sure the copper tube coming from the compressor housing is kept upright (if you are keeping this 'thing') , due to the toxic & icky nature of the (used) compressor oil that can leak/siphon from it !

I remember when my Grandparents got electricity on the farm back around 1954. Their first purchase was a new Kelvinator refrigerator. From that time until they left the farm, my Grandmother always referred to the appliance as the "Kelvinator". "Here, put the potato salad in the Kelvinator", she would tell me. I almost grew up thinking those big white devices in the kitchen were all called that. :D
Oh...by the way, Kelvinator was owned by AMC.

They won`t let you scrap them here with freon still in them !! All compressors must be removed before taking appliances to the scrap yard !!
