Title: What IS this? Can't find anywhere! Need ID!
Post by: Debbelle on September 04, 2013, 09:36:54 AM
I pretty much figure it's a plant stand. But, the material appears to be plastic, but at 3' tall, it weighs over 20 lbs. It appears to be hand-painted, and the designs are intricate and detailed. Maybe Oriental. There are markings on it.....???? What they are (language/symbols), I don't know. There are 4 different markings like that. I pictured one of them. Thanks for any help here.

this is a ...Jardiniere....i doubt that its "plastic".....more likely to be made of resin...as 20lbs weight...makes for a lot of plastic....

This is what the underneath part of the top looks like, and the underneath part of the bottom. Also, does anyone know what the 'writing' is? I'll try to attach 2 more of them here. The third one can be seen pretty good from the above photo of the plant stand top.

Well, down here in Texas...this is what is known as a Jardiniere Stand! (The jardiniere being the pot or container that sits on top.)

It looks like a mix of styles to me!

The characters seem like Japanese to me. Whilst Kanji in Japanese is pretty much just Chinese characters, the stroke styles used in the picture seem more similar to Japanese calligraphy than Chinese.

The fourth picture, first character means "east" and third character means "way" or "path". not sure about others.

An interesting peice!

Thought that but it's a five toed dragon, usually the preserve of the Chinese. Could be Japanese but in a more Chinese style.
