This was a gift to my mother from a woman that used to live next door to us. She was just 6 weeks shy of her 101st birthday when she passed away in 1990. The globe is painted glass and the base is metal, but is fairly rusty on the bottom. It's 21" tall. It may have been re-wired at one time - the cord is clear plastic. Any idea as to it's age and value?

Can you take a close up of the shade ?? Does not look hand painted !! Looks like a transfer print !! Have you tried to clean the metal base ?? Can`t tell what metal it is from the pic !!

I agree with you Mart. It looks transfer decorated. The whole thing looks odd to me. I need to see a lot more pictures of the socket, the underside of he base and whatever else. It kind of looks like a marriage to me yet that 10 inch (guessing) is original to the piece, I think. Hear me scratching my head.

I agree Frogpatch !! Its an odd one for sure !! Could be a brass base !!

As Mart knows I am a lamp and lighting person. There is something about this that does not make sense. Even if I visualize it with the paint stripped off the shade just does not work. But what would have fit on there? I feel that it lost a much nicer shade at one time and someone found this 70s piece of glass and put it on there. I need to see close ups like I said. I think I see two pull chains also. It may have had a leaded or reverse painted shade at one time. Maybe even a puffy shade. Could be a Bradley and Hubbard base.

Forget what I said. It is none of those. I am clueless on this one. I recognize the shade but the base just does not look right.

I think we are just going to have to wait till we get more and better pics !! No clue so far !!

More photos of the shade

Here are more photos of the lamp base

Looks like a very old marriage in which someone adapted a GWTW shade to a new(er) metal base.

it never ceases to amaze me....on the amount of junk that we...keep....includ ing myself..... :D....but if i saw this lying in a skip.....it would still be there....

Base looks like late 30`s or 40`s !! Originally thought the shade was transfer ware but I can see enough variation to say it "may" be hand painted !! You could be right Ghopper !! Hard to tell much about it !!

Yep!

It is sometimes surprising what people do to fairly simple everyday items, maybe out of necessity ... repair it rather than bin it. I have an old Super Aladdin lamp, US company (as many of you will know) but made in Britain, and even that's been altered over the years!

Back then people thought little of just replacing the shade with another that fit !! They were just lamps to be used !! They didn`t consider that later on we would be wondering about how that shade came to be with that lamp !!

Exactly.
