Title: What kind of chair is this?
Post by: kdj on September 28, 2013, 12:10:31 PM
Hello,
I am looking for help to identify this chair. I bought it painted so the company name, if it was there, can't be seen. During the search for who made it, what kind of chair is it, and what is it worth - I saw many similar chairs but  I don't have the knowledge to answer my own questions! This chair was in someone's attic for a very long time before I bought it at an estate sale.
Thanks for your help.

Yeah, although antique windsors can be quite valuable, both english and american, this would not be in that category. Still, if the joints are sound, good sitting chair but not much value. Where are you located?

Someone asked about location. I am in Minnesota.
Thanks to all who answered!
Value opinion - low - what if it was restored?

Your Windsor style chair is most likely from the 1940`s or 50`s !! It does not have the graceful arms of the earlier chairs and is much heavier in construction !! Legs are much more straight and the back has a rather barrel like appearance !! Were usually used with at attached cushion and are a bit uncomfortable without one !!  Even restored not much value but many of these were painted originally !!  Maybe $20. !!  Sorry !!

Thanks mart!
And best regards to all who replied!
Will be posting another chair, in a short while, also old, so if you all don't mind...tell me what you think?

I would say the only restoration it needs is another coat of paint. Since the early Windsor chairs were used as outdoor seating, maybe that would be the best use for it. :D  (Minnesota?...Yell at those darn Twins for me. :'()

yes, location is kinda important when trying to figure out what, where, when in old furniture. I notice many dont include that info on their post or in their personal info.

maybe they,re frightened ...that some of us will land on their doorstep.....like what happened to me a few months back....a member from your side of the pond,s  friends turned up on my doorstep ..and i made them very welcome..... :) :)

Yes, I see that location would be important. It seems my chair is American?
I wonder who would have made this in America?
Is mine Windsor "style" or is it  a Windsor? Thanks!

location as to what part of the world you come from, specific address is not needed so i don't know why someone would be afraid. For instance, in my profile, i list Charlotte NC so someone at least knows what part of the country i am in and, with a 1 million population here, i dont really see someone showing up on my door step unless i give them a specific address.

You really don,t get it,do you....90% of the people on here keep their location secret, their gender secret, and their email secret....for fear of I.D. fraud.....i used frightened as a metaphor, as for myself...yes i gave out my address...to this member....whom i,ve never met..and am never likely to meet....but....meet ing their friends....was like i,d known them for years....

Oh i get it just fine, you argue that giving out a general location of where one happens to be in the world is somehow dangerous, i disagree.

The “fear mongers” have made some of that 90% afraid of their own shadow. And others think its “cool” or that you are suppose to have a “screen-name”. For some, it gives them courage to say what they wouldn’t have said otherwise.

“HA”, just go to Google, key in a name, any name, and you will get 100+ hits with addresses, phone numbers, etc. See this News article:  http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/most-not-all-us-google-ourselves-8C11279522 (http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/most-not-all-us-google-ourselves-8C11279522)

I liked that E-mail “cartoon” I once received that pictured a little boy telling Obama … “My Dad said you are fibbing to us about ObamaCare” ….. and Obama replies …. “Your Dad is not your Dad”.

Cheers

Where in all of this did I say it was dangerous....

According to my dictionary, dangerous = able or likely to cause harm or injury.

bigwul,  I do not engage in nutty or banal arguments, identity theft causes great harm and finanicial injury to folks every day. The idea that giving out ones general location in the world leads to that is, to me, nutty.

I believe most identity theft is local, ... not across State lines or borders.

It’s tuff to hide from the Flying Spaghetti Monster … cause he can likely find you via ……

the "people finder" tools available to him such as, to wit:

AnyWho …..  http://www.anywho.com/whitepages (http://www.anywho.com/whitepages)

Yellow Pages, … White Pages, … Reverse phone # lookup …. Area/Zip Code lookup

And that is just for the novices.

The pros that are knowledgeable in/of computer source/program code have "tools" that permit them to easily "check-out" internet/E-mail transmissions "tracks" and/or view the data unless it is encrypted.
