I've looked all over the outside of this firearm and can't find anything that would indicate the model number. I see some numbers (112178) which I assume is the serial number. It also says "Sturm, Ruger & Co., Southport, Conn., USA" and "22 Caliber Long Rifle Automatic Pistol". Maybe Ruger didn't have model numbers?

The first firearm Ruger manufactured starting in 1949 was the 22 automatic pistol like yours...and was simply called that.
The catalog listed them as a Standard 22 Automatic Pistol, and a later model was identified as the Mark I.
You can check the serial number here:

..this is used for killing people......big difference....mind you..your Browning will do it just as well....Morality and guns don,t go hand in hand....

Actually this gun is more in the varmint category !! Hubby carried the bull barrel Ruger on the tractor when he was working on clearing pasture !! Good gun !!
-
Why a varmint needs it in a shoulder holster is beyond me....
-
Looks like standard belt holster to me !! Would be difficult to remove with that snap if shoulder holster but easy if at the waist !!

Around here its more cottonmouths, turtles, nutria maybe a beaver on occasion !!
-
its such a shame that you classify a beaver...as a varmint....they have recently been re-introduced to Scotland...and are protected by law....
-
Come get all you want !! When they start cutting down all your trees you won`t like them either !!
-
Your Ruger if a red label is worth around $400. or a bit more !! Black label is about $150. to $200. !!

Another great gun! I've fired thousands of rounds through one that looks very similar. I remember the one I used to use was an early 1960s one.
-
Although it says "automatic" its a semi- auto !!

For those that wonder what the difference is:
The "Red Label / Eagle" Ruger denotes the early models that were fitted with red eagle medallions in the grips. After Alex Strum passed away in late 1951, Bill Ruger had that medallion changed to a black eagle in memory of his business partner. Any production after about February 1952 had the black eagle grips.
