I got this jar trying to figure out age, origin ect.? No markings and has a little lid with a knob inside I don't know what it is for? The glaze looks older.
-
I thought these were called ginger jars --
-
you hit the nail on the head...its a Ginger Jar....
-
I know it's a ginger jar but what is the inside lid for or what does it do? Age? Origin? TY
-
This is known as a ginger jar...However, they have been used for spices, salts, oils, etc...
With the second lid, yours is a likely candidate to store spices or tea!
-
Thank you. Any idea on age?

Took the words out of my mouth KC...this was the sealing cap...date wise....could be anywhere from early 1900,s up to mid 1950,s...is there any eggshell crazing to the glaze....
-
There is a lot of crazing in the glaze.
-
Without a makers mark....its hard to pinpoint an exact date..unless the floral pattern is .identified....from memory...Satsuma ware made many ginger jars....but...with a 20year margin of error either way....i think we can safely say....turn of the 19th/20th century...

Bog standard ginger jar decorated with prunus blossom.
-
Most likely 70`s when half the country had them !! Remember ginger jar lamps from that era !!
-
I like the 70's and the carefree days!!! ;D We have a ton of those jar lamps in this area.
