Title: My restoration project
Post by: Buddie11 on October 14, 2013, 03:03:53 PM
This was given to me by my mother in law, totally trashed and incomplete, missing one bell, the crank and mouthpiece . Unfortunately I didn't take a pic before resto. About 200$ later for parts and many hours of my free labour this what I've got. I still need to replace ear piece and cord, rough shape!! My question is how bad did I affect value by refinish the cabinet? Oh inside is untouched

I thought if one replaced with time pieces of original era it didn't matter as much as if you replaced with modern replacements.

Did you refinish the wood?

I did refinish the oak. All replacement parts are era to the phone according to the 80 year old phone collector I purchased them from

Actually this is one of the few things that a refinish doesn`t hurt as bad as others !!  Although most collectors want original,,the majority of the other buyers that us them for display pieces really don't care !!  Having said that,, the money you have spent on parts pretty much covers the potential value !! And some sell less than that !! So watch your pocketbook if you are going to sell it !!

That's Bigwulls favorite saying !!!   Things aren`t as popular over there as here in the U.S !!

Nooooo!!...you are mistaken....its not that things are less popular over here.....its more about the money.....we don,t have as much of it ..as you guys...its a well known fact...that all Americans are loaded....or so the one,s i,ve met would have me believe.... ;D
