Title: Ebert Furniture Co. China Closet - age & value question
Post by: janine0917 on October 18, 2013, 09:35:26 AM
Hello. I'm looking to find information on an Ebert Furniture China Closet I believe to be from the early 1900's. Can anyone give me an approx. date and value of the piece?

I bet there is quarter sawn oak under that paint, do yourself that this cabinet a favor and remove that paint. It'll increase value of your curio cabinet by ALOT! Hey, shabby chic saved this cab from being trashed or lost so hooooo rayyyyy for shabby chic.

/there,s nothing surer...this is an oak bow fronted china cabinet...and in its original condition...could resale at $300/400...but as it is...you,d be lucky to get $75....and bare... in mind if you do decide to strip off that paint....be very careful...with what you use...for  any caustic based paint removers will turn the oak black....

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm definitely not restoring the cabinet just want it out of my garage! LOL I was hoping it was worth more but deep down I knew that whoever painted it ruined it.  :(

I'd say more like $1000 or so restored on east coast USA

Hey, if you want it out of your garage and giving it away, where are you located?

This cabinet is not ruined, it just has issues. I would guess from the "golden age" of oak at the turn of the 20th century. A couple hundred to restore and it's worth 800-1000 or so, not a bad investment at all.
