Title: Help identify this Chinese oddity
Post by: veggieguy on October 25, 2013, 07:00:52 PM
I picked this up for cheap at an auction, because it was so visually interesting (and my wife thought it quite special).  Since bringing it home, we've tried for hours to research it online but have come up empty.  I imagine we just don't know the magical term, so I'm hoping one of you might have seen something similar before.  I expect it is vintage (at best) rather than antique.

All I know is that it's Chinese, based on three sets of symbols it bears.  There are no markings on the bottom, and nothing that would indicate a maker or artist.  A friend of a friend translated the Chinese as:

1. Safety around whole year
2. Waterfall
3. Beautiful Scenery

Below are some snapshots.  Thank you!

Ipcress may have an idea on your item !!  Maybe he can take a look tomorrow !!  I am just not sure that it was made there even though its made in that style !!  If it was,,, then was made strictly for the tourist market !!

Thanks, all.  I'm not surprised to hear it's a tourist item, but I'm still puzzled why I can't find any others online.  I'm guessing it hinges on what these things are actually called.  Hopeful that somebody will know.
