Title: smocar cigarette case
Post by: pa7k on November 06, 2013, 07:19:00 AM
I have a cigarette dispenser, from what I can find online, it was from at least the 1950s. It says Smocar on it. I found one site that mentioned it, an old newspaper site, but had to pay to join so I didn't. the only info I saw on  it said "Tito, the son of the house, concentrates on practicality. His billfold for men is the only one I have seen that also holds change. His latest invention is the Smocar, a magnetic, pop-up cigarette case for adhering to the dashboard of an automobile." but thats as much as I could find. would you know more about it? Thanks

Wow, total lack of information on the net about this.  The thing that keeps repeating in searches is WW1 & WW2 and Italian smoking.  Has to be a small Italian company that made these back during that time.

Forgot to mention since it was patent pending I would put it more towards the WW1 period because many items were marked with patent pending earlier on.

40`s, 50`s and 60`s was inventors heaven !! Many items like this and others were invented, patented, sold then faded away !!
Don`t think this one is that early,, most likely post WWII !!

Even if it the only one left on the earth,, there is no collector base for them !! If someone wanted one to use they wouldn`t care if it was the brand like yours or some other one !! Wish it were a valuable one !!  Its a neat item though !! I would keep it !!

Now if I had one of those, I'd keep it.  (I could store my smocar case in it)

They were made by a company called Valextra. Tito Fontana was the designer of the case ( his father founded the company / shop ) . He also released some jazz records and founded his own label called Dire.

You're supposed to place them on the dashboard of your car and it dispenses a cigarette without you having to fiddle with a normal cigarette case.
