It ends soon on auction. I really like it but no clue on value. 5.75" x 4.25" x 2"

I wouldn't have said a great deal because the quality of the stone and the carving isn't great.
However, news items about Oriental antiques fetching obscene amounts of money at auction has changed the market and the bottom end is now more competitive.
Think you could have picked this up for $20 a few years ago but i wouldn't be surprised to see it fetch $100-200 now.
Part of the repatriation of their antiques means there are also collectors in China and Japan who can't distinguish between Kangxi and Guangxu and pay more than an items is really worth.
But then i suppose we're into an argument about the definition of value / worth. The common answer is that something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it....bit simple for my tastes

What is the auction up to ?? I agree with Ipcress about the carving !! Not well defined !!

Not that i,m an expert on Jade monkeys...had it been Jade Warrior...then..tha t would be a different kettle o, fish...Ghopper will know what i,m on about...back to the monkey...this item you,ve shown us ..in my opinion..looks superior to the one on Rubylane...

I agree, much nice than the one on Ruby Lane.
-
My personal opinion would be $50. to $75. tops !! Preferably the $50. !!
-
One on Rubylane looks like nephrite.

I think the price has passed my level of cheapness unless I thought it was going to bring in a good margin.
