Greetings,
I know that few Carnival Glass Makers marked their items (Northwood is one who did). However, I came across an item at a local antique mall and the interior of the bowl was marked "S". I found this is in reference to the L E Smith Company, but cannot date the time span within which it was used. L E Smith appears to have changed their mark over the years.

Can anyone help me identify the era of that mark?

Giggle--yeah, I know. That's the site of my original link. Their "Marks" page shows the L E Smith marks starting at 1920 and ending 1990's. However, the mark I saw, and is listed on the site, shows no date span. Can we assume it is after 1930, since the mark listed prior to the simple "S" is different? How long did L E Smith use the simple "S" (prior to the circled "S")? That is my question.

It would help if you posted a picture of that bowl ..... and the pattern name if you know what it is.
Reproductions began in the 1960s, continuing into the 1970s. A variety of shapes, including an 11” chop plate in Open Rose, not originally produced in old carnival (which we will display in a coming segment) are now more than forty years old. ................... ... Since the `70s, apparently L.E. Smith Glass attained some molds, but their S mark should be evident.

I'll have to revisit the antique mall, as I didn't buy that item. The owner seemed very open to learning more about Carnival Glass. When I asked if I could bring in my reference book, she had no problem with it.
