Title: need your help identifying this- possibly made by Julius Rappoport?
Post by: jmclements on January 18, 2014, 01:45:54 PM: I need help identifying this . Its supposedly a woman whos shaped like a melting candle and being put out by a candle snuffer. It looks sort of of like a witch to me but i know its not. I have seen this someplace. I cant make out the hallmarks or inventory number located on the back and near the womans head/snuffer. Anyone ? The marks on the bottom of the woman are also difficult to read as well.

Questions: Is it a candle snuffer? Can we get the measurements? Can we get a pic of the reverse side?

As to the 'signature'; you might want to try an old fashioned 'rubbing' to get a clearer idea of what's written.

I will try my best to get more pics up with measurements. I believe when i saw it online on an auction site a couple months back ( where i do not recall) - it was detailed as a candle snuffer.... i remember thinking it seemed terribly impractical . There are other places where it looks as if hallmarks could have been there once. ..Please bear with me

Post by: Dogaman on January 18, 2014, 08:35:26 PM: I am no expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but to me it looks like she's been cast in two pieces and put together at the waist. Enlarging the first pic, you can see where the metal has been chipped away around her waist. That pic also shows that her face is not very defined for an original casting.

Mart, this might explain why her hands look weird and her forearms flattened.
