Nice and old and even the woodworm must be dead by now . But Africa is big so who is able to tell where in Africa this could be made and when maybe ? The shape and decoration must be able to pinpoint it a bit i hope .
Thanks

You might try looking here !! I couldn`t get the site to open !!
-
Thanks and have a look tomorrow at it . Was able to open so must working okay .
-
Do you have a shop ??
-
No . Just a nutty collector who also sells some off the bought items hopefully with some profit . And buying again and again off course . Just like antiques and older electronic equipment etcetera etcetera . But have some much to check and look at that I have to be living to at least a 150 years old :)
-
Hope you make a profit too !! Good luck with your sales !!
-
Try Pacific island masks, too. New Guinea, Fiji etc. They have shell eyes and this doesn't look Nubian or African.

I am on dial up so all sites do not cooperate for me !! You find some odd items so thought you might have an antique or collectable shop !! But selling as independent is just as good and no overhead expenses !!
-
That is a great piece! Are you going to list it on Ebay? If you do post the link.
-
Probably on e bay later but first I would like to have some similar masks to find for the price range to put it in. This is a difficult thing to price I think . And nosey as always I do want to know as good as possible where and when made by what tribe . But like the famous song from the 70ties : So much to do If I only had time only time ;D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToNK2-JuQMs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToNK2-JuQMs)
And here's my computer room just as a example . You don't want to see the rest off the house filled with the other collected stuff ;)

WOW !!! Bric a brac in the house !!
Can i see that mauve and white jug on the second shelf in the top pic ?
-
You're very observant to see a probably English transfer printed Japanese marked ginger jar . There's also a blue and white one shelf higher without the lid and not marked . Make pictures tomorrow for you
-
2nd pic,,lower rt. corner ?? Look like swans !! What are those or is that a mirror behind making it look like two ??
-
No there's 2 off them and there book supports and think myself there maybe from Indonesia and from before ww2 . Wood is tropical and heavy
-
The suggestions where right and it is a ancestor mask from Papua New Guinea . So thanks . only have to find the possible age of it . I think it must be from end 19th to beginning 20th century compared to others I have seen ?
-
Correct me if I am wrong...but is this even a mask? From the looks of the back in the pic it is solid and not made in an actual mask form? Could just be the pic!
-
Mart, are you talking about what appears to be bookends that are either phoenix or pterodactyl?
Thank you for posting these pics. I can now show the better half that there are others out there.... LOL
-
Yes you're right here and it's called a Ancestor mask but flat at the back to put in your house to be protected by your ancestors . Like nowadays a picture off my mother in law in the front door will do the trick ? ;D
-
And here's some pictures off the jar Ipcress was asking for
-
This is the wrong one. I meant the one with the leaf motif. That's why i said jug, not jar. :)
That's Japanese, not English transfer printed. They copied some of our styles so they were popular for export. Looks like Mason's or other stoneware but it's definitely Japanese.
-
Thanks and did not know that about the Japanese copies so learnt again . The jug you mentioned is a Delft jug dated 1630 but I don't think it's the real . To perfect for his age . Do have some real old Dutch but needs restoring .

Yes KC !! That it !! Couldn`t tell if it was bookends or had a mirror behind it and I was seeing a reflection !! Didn`t enlarge it !!

Could i see a better image though ?
Doesn't initially look like delft, either.

Here's the Delft for you . Looks like Delfts 17th century but to perfect to be true I think .
